Biodiversity Action Plan
The vision of the Biodiversity Action Plan for the Cotswold Water Park in 2050 is that it should be a premier site for nature conservation where the requirements of industry, leisure, people and wildlife are successfully integrated.

The Cotswold Water Park Society leads and co-ordinates the CWP BAP?s implementation and delivery of BAP targets by
- pioneering demonstration projects
- influencing land restoration & habitat creation through the planning system
- working with mineral companies to enhance the biodiversity of working quarries
- working with mineral companies on the restoration of quarries for biodiversity
- working with developers on the management and creation of habitats
- advising landowners and their consultants
- managing areas of the Society's landholdings for biodiversity
- co-ordinating and facilitating work by other organisations and landowners
- co-ordinating research, monitoring and survey work
- reporting nationally on the progress of the Biodiversity Action Plan

CWP BAP 2007-2016
Over the last two years, the CWP BAP has been reviewed and revised by the Nature Conservation Forum, along with a series of workshops held for all consultees which aimed to put the CWP BAP in context and provide an opportunity for further comment and discussion.
All comments were recorded and considered, and the final version of the BAP was launched on Thursday July 10th at an informal event, attended by over 50 conservationists, planners, landowners, local representatives and volunteers.

The 2011 newsletter for the CWPT Black Poplar Project is now available as a download. The native black poplar is one of the CWP BAP target species and considerable work is being done by the Trust to help the conservation of this fantastic tree.

Background
Alongside the constant demand for more mineral extraction, there has always been tremendous commercial pressure for business developments - including water sports, recreational developments, second homes, hotels and holiday complexes.
In 1989, the local nature conservation bodies formed ?The Nature Conservation Forum? to present a common response to planning applications. In 1996, this Forum initiated the development of the CWP Biodiversity Action Plan 1996-2007 (CWP BAP) to take a proactive approach to nature conservation in the Water Park.
What is a Local Biodiversity Action Plan (BAP)?
It translates national nature conservation goals into real objectives for specific habitats and species. It describes the biological resources of an area and commits a detailed plan for the protection and enhancement of these resource s or put simply ?making the Cotswold Water Park better for wildlife ?
This is implemented through a partnership between conservation bodies, gravel companies, lake owners, Local Authorities and local residents coordinated by the Cotswold Water Park Society.
The CWP BAP was the first strategic plan to cover the whole of the Water Park both sides of the Gloucestershire/Wiltshire boundary. It translates the international agreements signed at the Earth Summit at Rio de Janeiro in 1992 into local on-the-ground action.
