ALSF Project summary
A recent award of £400,000 from the Aggregates Levy Sustainability Fund enables major works to take place in the Cotswold Water Park.
Improvements include:
- Over two kilometres of new footpath
- Rejuvenation of Lakeside picnic area (near South Cerney)
- Sculpture trail along a section of Sustrans Route 45
- Stunning artist- designed bird hide
- Over 40 acres of new wetland habitats
The project is located in the south western section of the Cotswold Water Park (CWP), primarily Lakeside recreation area near South Cerney and Cleveland Lakes near Ashton Keynes, with improvements to footpaths linking the two sites. This exciting project will cost over £400,000 which has been funded by Natural England though Defra's Aggregates Levy Sustainability Fund and is one of the largest awards ever given in this region.
The project includes the creation of over two kilometres of new paths, a stunning artist designed bird hide and over 40 acres of new reedbeds and other wetland habitats, at Cleveland Lakes near Ashton Keynes. Following gravel extraction the planting of reedbeds provides a stunning place for wildlife such as bittern, otters, water voles and reed bunting.
There will also be major improvements to enhance Lakeside picnic area (South Cerney), together with a sculpture trail linking to Waterhay Car Park via Cleveland Lakes.
