Villagers definitely not 'stick in the muds'!
Ashton Keynes villagers tour quarry site
As part of the consultation and creativity process of the CWPS Aggregates Levy Sustainability Fund project, two different groups of villagers from Ashton Keynes have been given a tour of the Bardon Aggregates works site near the village to help them to understand the quarrying process further, and to see at first hand the progress of the groundworks taking place at Clevleland Lakes
On a very frosty clear Saturday morning a group of Parish Councillors and interested villagers were shown round the site by John Rayment of Aggregate Industries and Matthew Millett, Project Director for the Cotswold Water Park Society. Chair of Ashton Keynes Parish Council, Diana Wain said of the visit
" It was extremely worthwhile to be able to see what goes on in the manufacturing site, and also to be given an idea of what these project improvements will mean to the villagers. We are really pleased that there are to be more footpaths, and more habitats for wildlife so close to Ashton Keynes."
Maybe not so sedate, but certainly no less enthusuastic was the visit by Class 5 from Ashton Keynes Primary School who were shown round the factory and site by Rob Westell, Area Estates Manager for Aggregate Industries. The reason behind this tour was to give the pupils some background information for an exciting project they are about to embark on with graphic designer James Ecendance of I-2-in.
They will be working with James to design, develop, and publish an innovative website based on the theme of quarrying, its products and effects on the landscape. Keep a look out in March for the launch of the site!
