Out with the old, in with the new!

Lakeside Recreation Area improvement works

Lakeside Recreation Area improvement works

Lakeside, Station Road, South Cerney will be closed to the public for a period of 8 to 10 weeks from the end of November 2007, in order for much needed improvements to be carried out by the Cotswold Water Park Society.

Resurfacing of the car parking area and creation of marked parking bays will aim to create more ordered and safer parking. Approximately half of the site will be turned into a pedestrian-only area with picnic benches, seating and an exciting new sculpture created by a local artist working with the local community.

The steep and eroded lake edges will also be landscaped to provide a gentle gradient, making them safer and more pleasing to the eye, whilst additional planting around the lake edge will prevent further erosion and attract insects and songbirds.

New information boards will help to raise public awareness of the importance of the lake for nature conservation, and provide details of walks from Lakeside including a new and improved waymarked trail to the Cleveland Farm wetland complex. Another new notice board will advertise forthcoming events and local activities for visitors and residents in the Water Park.

This project has been grant funded through the Aggregates Levy Sustainability Fund.
