Now the hard work begins….
Aggregates Levy money awarded for major works
The Cotswold Water Park Society has recently been successful in applying to the Aggregates Levy Sustainability Fund and is delighted to have been been awarded a grant of £305,000. This funding will now allow a number of long awaited projects to take place, including wetland habitat creation, car park improvment and landscaping, along with the creation of 2km of new footpaths near Cleveland Lakes which will link into the Thames Path National Trail.
A significant part of the project consists of an community arts, education and interpretation scheme, whereby community groups from Ashton Keynes and South Cerney are being involved in consultation, reminiscences and creativity. The completed artworks will be seen along the route for all to enjoy.
Matthew Millett, project director for the ALSF application said " The Society is really pleased that we are now able to undertake major habitat creation at Cleveland Lakes. The project also includes large scale landscaping and improvements at Lakeside Car Park, near South Cerney, as this area has been a place of great concern to local communities for many years. "
The project is scheduled for completion by the end of March 2008, although people will begin to see improvements before then.
An application is in to SITA trust for a further £55,000 towards these works.
