More fossil fun
Fresh fossil finds from the Cotswold Water Park
After all the excitement of young Emelia Fawbert's fantastic fossil find - the atlas vertebra of an Ice Age woolly rhino - it seemed unlikely that the next fossil hunt could really match up.
But this weekend, again more than 80 fossil hunters taking part in an organised fossil hunt in the Cotswold Water Park scoured the base of a very wet and windy quarry. With some wonderful ammonites being revealed, and some brilliant belemnites a great many people made some exciting finds.

Joe with his plesiosaur remains
But it was Joe Constable, age 12 from Bristol who was delighted to spot what he thought at first was a dark belemnite, but on closer examination found he was holding a beautiful tooth from a Jurassic marine reptile - the plesiosaur. To make his find even more exciting, he found a vertebra, possibly from the same creature lying alongside, in the thick grey clay.

Another youngster, Cathal Herron found a superb plesiosaur vertebra, making him an extremly pleased first time fossil hunter!
The CWP Society would like to thank Hanson for allowing access to the quarry for this event.
