Nordic walking catches on at Keynes Park

This weekend saw the first ever workshops for the training of Nordic Walking at Keynes Country Park. Expert tutor Cristina Robbins spent the day instructing complete beginners on the techniques of the exhilarating sport which has been around on the continent for many years.
Here in the UK, people are just waking up to the benefits of this all-round form of exercise, which expends up to 30% more energy than plain walking.
With the help of special lightweight poles the walker uses them to 'push' themselves along, whilst striding energetically. The people who attended the workshops all seemed to enjoy the challenge and by the end of the 90 minutes were all looking like Nordic Walkers, and keen to pursuse this as a new way of keeping fit.
