Awesome orienteering by school children
More than 50 primary school children took part in Walking Week activity at Keynes Park
More than 50 children aged between 4 and 11 braved the now familiar weather for this annual event - yes it was raining again! - the Cotswold Schools Sports Partnership Walking Week activity, organised by Kingshill School and hosted by the Cotswold Water Park Society at Keynes Park.
The children took part in an orienteering challenge around the lakes, and some of the teams finished in record times! With more than half the turn out coming form Ashton Keynes Primary School it is not surprising that the first three winning teams came from there.
1st - The Walkerables
2nd - Team Tipping
3rd - Devil Picachu
with special mention for the Pater Oscars, a very determined team of ten from Paternoster School who encountered some of the worst weather of the afternoon but still completed the whole course.
Also taking part were the Killer Carps, the Famous Five, the Crew Crew, the Sith Team, the Simpsons and the Brave Man Team ( all from Ashton Keynes Primary School). Class teacher Mrs Greatorex deserves a mention for rallying so many enthusiastic teams - nothing to do with the promise of lollypops?!
Mention must also go to the adults leading an energetic group from Miserden School, who kept the Awesome Eight team spirits up so well that they arrived back even more hyper than when they set out!
Organiser and Kingshill teacher Mr Andy Hart from the Schools Partnership said " It was great to see so many kids out there, having fun, getting some exercise and fresh air, depsite the rain. Next year we hope even more schools and more teams will take part in this informal, fun event"
