Cotswold Water Park Master Plan
Following the recent appointment of consultants to prepare a new strategic master plan for the Cotswold Water Park, work has started on the study’s review and consultation process. Development consultants, Scott Wilson, have brought together a team of experts with skills as varied as tourism and leisure, conservation, master planning, rural planning, transport planning, minerals planning, agriculture, hydrology, and archaeology . They have been given the task of preparing an achievable strategy by the Cotswold Water Park Joint Committee.
However the study intends to produce a vision, or series of visions, that not only reflects the various sectors that are active within the Park, such as land owners, minerals operators, holiday parks or conservationists, but particularly express the hopes and concerns of the 20,000 people who live within the Park’s 40 square kilometres.
With further mineral extraction to take place on the central section of the Park in due course, there is a significant need for a vision and strategy that looks at potential changes in the need for recreation, tourist facilities, minerals, the local community and a sustainable environment over the next twenty years. There is also a need for an implementation plan for the next five years which will guide and manage change in the shorter term.
The master planning process is being funded by the South West Regional Development Agency and five local authorities on the Joint Committee Wiltshire and Gloucestershire County Councils, Cotswold and North Wiltshire district Councils and Swindon Borough Council
