The task for the day will be removing Himalayan Balsam, an invasive annual plant which spreads down watercourses very quickly. Balsam grows rapidly, out-shading and outcompeting our native species, so we need to do our best to prevent it spreading from our sites and hopefully get rid of it altogether.
To do this we will be hand pulling Balsam before it comes to seed, to reduce the risk of it spreading (seed pods burst and spray seed quite dramatically when touched).
Balsam grows in wet areas so bring wellies (or at least waterproof boots).
